MMR and Tuberculosis Information
MMR (Mumps, Measles, and Rubella)

Full-time students with less than 30 semester hours of college credit completed and foreign-born students: Must submit acceptable proof of immunization against two measles, two mumps, and two rubella no later than 30 days after classes begin during their first semester at NWACC. Exception: If a student has previously received two doses of measles, one dose of mumps and one dose of rubella before January 1, 2010, the doses will be accepted as compliant to immunization requirements and 2 MMRs are not required.

Full-time students with 30 or more semester hours of college credit completed: Must submit acceptable proof of immunization against one measles, one mumps, and one rubella no later than 30 days after classes begin during their first semester at NWACC.

Acceptable proof of immunization is an official immunization record from another educational institution in Arkansas, a licensed medical doctor, or an authorized public health representative, or military service. Shot records must state the vaccine type and dates of vaccine administration. Terms such as “up to date”, “complete”, and “adequate” are not accepted.

Documentation should be dropped off the Student Records Office, faxed to 479-619-2229, or emailed to askregistration@nwacc.edu.

Exemptions: Students receiving their entire education online or born before January 1, 1957, are exempt from this policy. Students may file for a medical, religious, or philosophical exemption through the Arkansas State Board of Health. Students may also call 501-661-2169 for more information. Medical, religious, and philosophical exemptions require an annual application through the State.

TB (Tuberculosis Screening)

Foreign-born students born in a county where TB is endemic, who is not a permanent resident, and receives instruction in a room in which others are present, are required to undergo TB screening. Part-time students as well as full time students are included.

Students must use the NWACC Tuberculin Skin Testing Form when submitting evidence of TB screening. Students who have had the required screening performed in the United States or Canada within the six months prior to enrollment will not be required to have it repeated, provided that they present satisfactory documentation.

Documentation of tuberculin testing must include:

  1. Name and address of provider
  2. Date applied
  3. Result of TST in mm of induration or of interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA)
  4. Date TST read or interval between application and reading
  5. Signature of provider.

When a tuberculin skin test causes 10mm or more of induration or an interferon-gama release assay (IGRA) is positive, an x-ray is required, which must be interpreted by a physician associated with the Department of Health or a board eligible radiologist, pulmonologist, or infectious disease specialist.

A negative chest x-ray is not a substitute for a skin test.

TB is not endemic in the countries listed below and students from these countries are not included:

American Region: Canada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, USA, and Virgin Islands (USA)

European Region: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, and United Kingdom

Western Pacific Region: American Samoa, Australia, and New Zealand
