High School Equivalency (GED) / Adult Secondary Education (ASE)
The Adult Education Department offers non-credit classes designed to teach/review academic skills normally associated with the public school K-12 curriculum culminating with preparation for taking the High School Equivalence (GED) test battery. Classes offered are Reading Improvement, Pre-GED Preparation and GED Preparation.
All classes GED classes are taught in an open-ended entry and exit environment, individualized for each learner. Students may enroll at any time during the year. Pace of learning and length of attendance are determined by the learner’s needs and scheduling constraints.
Adult Education classes are held at the Adult Education Center, 1200 W. Walnut, Rogers, on-site at various local industries, and at other locations as the need arises.
This course is designed for persons needing reading improvement between 4th and 7th grade levels. Emphasis is on vocabulary development, comprehension improvement, dictionary skills and critical thinking. Specific reading materials in the areas of Science, Literature and Social Studies are used extensively.
Specific preparation in the content areas of Writing Skills, Social Studies, Natural Science, Literature and Mathematics. Instructional materials are written at approximately a 7th to 9th grade level.
Preparation for High School Development Testing in the areas of Writing Skills, Social Studies, Natural Science, Literature and Mathematics. Materials are at the 10th to 12th grade level. Readiness for GED testing is indicated by a passing score on the official GED Practice Test.
