Skype Advising

 Skype for Business Logo

Current, Returning, and Visiting NWACC students now have a choice of scheduling a Skype advising session using Skype for Business (different than regular Skype).  Best of all, all NWACC students already have a Skype for Business account so there is no need to create a new account - you simply log-in using your existing myNWACC Connection username and password.

Skype advising will allow you and your advisor can review documents such as degree audits, navigate online resources, and screen and document share. This mode of advising is great if you are live far from campus or unable to come to campus yet still meet with an advisor.

If you choose to schedule a Skype appointment, please make sure you meet the following requirements:

Technical Requirements

  • Computer with reliable high-speed internet
  • Computer with working web-cam, speakers, and a microphone so your advisors can see and speak with you, and share their screen with you.
  • Skype for Business installed (info below)

Is Skype and Skype for Business different?

Yes. At this time we only offer appointment through Skype for Business. You will not be able to contact your advisor with regular Skype. All NWACC students already have a Skype for Business account included in their Office 365 subscription (provided to all NWACC students) and can login to the software using their myNWACC Connection username and password. The software can be downloaded free (see below).

Expectations for Students Choosing Skype Advising Option

  • Student must be Skyping from a quiet and distraction free location
  • Student will be responsible for Skyping their advisor (using advisor's NWACC email address) promptly at their appointment time. If you Skype late, you will be asked to reschedule.
  • Must have installed, set-up, and fully tested their Skype connection, and technology (mic, speakers, camera) prior to their appointment

Skype advising is not available for:

  • First-time college students who have not completed orientation.
  • Students participating in our High-School Concurrent program
  • Transfer students who have yet to submit official copies of their transcripts
