Financial Aid

Most NorthWest Arkansas Community College education abroad programs are designed so that students who are eligible for financial aid can utilize that aid toward their program abroad program. Students should consult with a Financial Aid adviser once they have identified a program of interest to see what aid may be available. The Department of Financial Aid has more information.

Scholarships

NWACC Study Abroad Scholarship
The NWACC Study Abroad Scholarship is awarded to any and all students participating in Study Abroad.  The application window opens each year on December 1st and closes March 1st.  We have two recipients of this award per year.  The minimum requirements to apply are having 12 credit hours completed, 2.0 cumulative GPA, and have already applied for a study abroad trip, and paid the Application Charge for that trip.  This award is given to students with the highest financial need and academic strengths. 

AIFS Study Abroad
AIFS offers a multitude of scholarships to any destination in the world.  These scholarships have varying amounts with varying deadlines.  Each year, more than $800,000 in scholarships, grants and financial support is awarded to deserving students & institutions. Funds are available for both summer and semester programs.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. Boren Awards for International Study
Provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Boren scholars represent a variety of academic backgrounds, but all are interested in studying less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. Application deadline for programs (Spring, Summer and Fall) - early February.

CEA Study Abroad
CEA offers Merit, Diversity, and Need-based scholarships to all students looking to expand their horizons abroad.  Most application deadlines end in April for Summer study abroad trips

Critical Language Scholarship Program
Provides study opportunities to a diverse range of students from across the United States at every level of language learning. The CLS Program seeks participants with diverse interests, from a wide variety of fields of study, backgrounds and career paths, with the purpose of representing the full diversity of professional, regional, cultural and academic backgrounds in the United States.

Eastern European Study Abroad
EESA believes that studying abroad can be the most beneficial time of a student's life; and we are committed to making it affordable for everyone. Students who have applied to study abroad with EESA are eligible to apply for one of the EESA scholarships. Students must be currently enrolled in a college or university and have their official transcript mailed to EESA. To apply, students must meet a minimum GPA requirement and answer a scholarship question with an essay one to two pages long. Scholarship applications can be submitted online.

Freeman Awards for Study in Asia
Provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Application deadline for Spring programs - early October; Summer programs - mid February; Fall programs - early April.

Go Overseas
Offers multiple scholarships for students to apply for that range in value, destination locations, and timespan.

LIVFund Scholarship
LIVFund is excited to offer its scholarship in 21 countries including Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela. The scholarship competition is open to anyone who meets the eligibility conditions and needs help covering program or living abroad expenses.
