ENJOY THESE WINNING ESSAYS FROM STUDENTS IN ENGLISH COMPOSITION II

Foreword

Welcome to the 7th edition of Reflections, the online anthology for English Composition II students at NWACC. These essays epitomize actual writing assignments completed by Comp II students for their instructors during the 2016-17 school year. A panel of experts judged the papers anonymously and selected the ten best, which I invite you to read and enjoy.

The student writing in this edition varies in subject matter, approaches, and genres. Some students expose the religious prejudice, child abuse, and stigma of mental illness they have personally endured, using memoir and journal formats. Essays on literature include a personal response to a story and a character analysis using a psychological approach. Another persuasive paper shows how one's preconceived ideas can be obstacles to finding the truth. Although we may be aware of food insecurity, a researched proposal points out the prevalence of consumers wasting food. Finally, three multi-sourced papers examine the impact of a cultural phenomenon on society.

Whether you are an English Composition II student or a person simply surfing the net, I hope that you will relish reading these essays. Use them as models as well as inspiration. May they awaken the writer within you!
