Experience Italian culture and advance your global studies, photography or culinary skills in Italy! Explore the country's beauty and historic monuments, palaces, churches and more as you walk the cobblestone streets of Siena. 

NWACC partners with Dante Alighieri School in Siena to offer students and community members four weeks of classroom study in the Italian language and culture.

June 3 - July 5, 2024 (includes travel dates)

Students will enroll in Global Studies (three or one credit) summer 2024 and one of these two courses: World Cuisines or Culinary Practicum summer 2024, or Digital Photography summer 2024.

Preliminary Itinerary:

June 3:  Depart XNA for Rome

June 4: Arrive in Rome. Drop bags or check-in depending on arrival time; orientation walking tour and Welcome to Rome Group Dinner and meet local guide for tour of the Roman Forum and Colosseum (Hotel Cecil)

June 5: Guided tour of Roman Forum and Colosseum

June 6: Optional early morning visit to the St. Peter’s Basilica and Vatican Museums; afternoon Roman Street Food Tour

June 7: Depart Rome for Siena (Hotel Moderno); orientation walking tour.

June 8: Preview session at Dante Cooking School, group pizza dinner

June 9:  Bruco Contrada tour

June 10: Classes begin – Global Studies: Reading the City in morning and culinary and photography courses in the afternoon and evenings; You will receive a detailed syllabus with your course schedule, meeting times and requirements before departure.

June 12: Brolio wine tour after classes

June 15-16: Plan your own weekend excursion

June 17: Week 2 of classes in Siena

June 22-23: Plan your own weekend excursion

June 24:  Week 3 of classes in Siena

June 28: Last day of classes. Farewell to Siena pizza party on the grounds of Quattro Torra.

June 29-July 2: Palio celebrations and last weekend in Siena

July 3: Depart Siena for Florence; tour Florence (Hotel Pierre)

July 4: Tour Florence, Accademia Gallery visit and Farewell Group Dinner.

July 5: Depart Florence (Florence to XNA)

Program Fees:

  • Culinary: $7,238.70
  • Photography: $6,258.70

Fees include:

  • Tuition and fees for culinary and morning Global Studies “Reading the City” in Siena course.
  • Round trip air transportation (approximately $2000)
  • Accommodations onsite
  • Daily breakfasts
  • Some other meals as listed on the itinerary 
  • Day trip excursions related to the program's curriculum
  • Admission to sites and attractions that are part of the program's curriculum
  • Project supplies and materials
  • Health and emergency management insurance

What Fees Do Not Include:

  • New passport application fees (if applicable)
  • Visa fee (if applicable)
  • Optional excursions
  • Immediate medical expenses
  • Camera equipment

Pay Fees:

  • 50% of the program fee deadline: Dec. 31
  • Program fee deadline: Feb. 28th

As a participant, you may pay a reduced rate if you are receiving financial aid, grants, and/or scholarships in benefit your study abroad program. Please email StudyAbroad@nwacc.edu with evidence of awards prior to the program fee deadline to confirm exact payment amount.

Dante Alighieri School  has been proudly teaching Italian language and culture for 40 years. Since 1990, the school has also been providing high-quality study abroad programs in Italy. 

At Dante Alighieri School all language, culture, cooking courses are taught in a dynamic way: the atmosphere is personal, tailored to each student’s learning needs and goals. 

The Institute is located in the medieval city center of Siena, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Siena will welcome you with the words “Cor magis tibi Sena pandit”  (Siena welcomes you with a heart wider than its gate).
