Did you attend a community college?
No, but both my sister and grandmother have attended NWACC!
What do you do at NWACC?
My top priority at NWACC is to help students figure out what is required to complete degrees and obtain jobs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. I also advise all NWACC students regardless of the degree they’re seeking in understanding what math course is required for their goals and is best for them. Ensuring students know the best path to take helps them reach their goals as quickly and efficiently as possible, saving them time and money!
Why NWACC?
I lived in northwest Arkansas my whole life and have watched NWACC be established
and grow over the last 30 years. Seeing firsthand the impact it has made on people
I went to school with and my own family members has always given me a positive view
of NWACC, so when I got the opportunity to work here, I jumped on it and didn't look
back! I also have a passion for career and workforce education, especially in STEM
fields, which is a major part of NWACC’s mission and something that was hard for me
to find at other schools.
What can you tell us about your experience working at NWACC?
I love the Science and Mathematics division! Everyone is so dedicated to helping students as much as possible. We know that so many students can struggle with science and math, so we do our best to help every student become engaged in the material and understand the underlying concepts of each subject. We also care about and get involved in campus administration by being active participants in faculty senate and staff council, which help the college improve and serve our mission to students.
What do you want the rest of the world to know about NWACC?
We have several opportunities for students to get hands-on and involved in science beyond the classroom, including the Living Laboratory, Honors and Service societies, a greenhouse, and undergraduate research labs. Also, our faculty are actively involved in scientific pursuits outside of the school, serving as experts for news articles, publishing their own research, and one even co-founded NWA Space which is in the process of building an astronomy center in NWA!
How do you like to spend your free time outside of NWACC?
I love to travel and am an avid reader.
What’s your advice for anyone considering attending NWACC?
Be sure to take advantage of all the wonderful resources we have to offer, tutoring, counseling, advising, and more! You don’t have to go it alone; we’re here to help.
